Reflected XSS into HTML context with nothing encoded#
This lab demonstrates a simple reflected XSS vulnerability in the search functionality of a web application. The application does not encode user input before rendering it in the HTML response, allowing an attacker to execute arbitrary JavaScript. The goal is to inject a payload that calls the alert()
function.
How Exploit Works#
- The
search
parameter is vulnerable to reflected XSS. - By injecting
<script>alert(1)</script>
, the browser executes the JavaScript in the HTML context. - Once the payload executes, the lab marks it as solved.
- This demonstrates the importance of output encoding to prevent XSS attacks.
